Setup:

A full tarot deck is required. Arrangement: Face down, place the Major Arcana cards 1–12 (with The Magician on top), followed by a double-backed card (13th position), then the rest of the deck in any order.

Performance (without patter):

Begin by spreading the deck face down to introduce the tarot cards. Then gather the deck, locate the double-backed card (13th position), and establish a Break beneath it (the Break is holding 13 cards, including the double-backed card).
Explain to the spectator that they will shortly take the deck under the table (or behind their back), cut off about half the deck from the top, flip that portion over, and replace it back on top. Secret move: At this moment, flip over the 13 cards above the Break. Now the top card is the double-backed card, followed by 12 face-up cards.
Hand the deck to the spectator. If a table is available, pass the deck under the table to conceal the reversed block. If there is no table, ask the spectator to close their eyes and take the deck behind their back. Instruct them to cut off about half the deck, flip it over, and replace it on top (only once, similar to a Cut-Deeper Force).
After the cut, a block of face-up cards will appear. Take the top face-up card, turn it over, and place it on the table. This is Card 1, representing the querent’s past.
Next, gather all the face-up cards until you reach the first face-down card. This is where the spectator cut earlier. Now, instruct the spectator to select a card based on their birth month: take the card corresponding to the number of their birth month. (All these actions happen under the table or behind their back. The spectator is effectively selecting one of the 1–12 sequential cards. By reading the marking on the card back, the performer instantly knows which card was chosen, and therefore the birth month.) This becomes Card 2, representing the present.
For the final selection, Card 3 (which may represent either current obstacles or the future), ask the spectator to shuffle the deck again. This time, according to their birth date (day of the month), they should take the card at that position. As the spectator counts through the cards in their mind and removes one, the performer estimates the approximate number based on the time taken, which gives a rough indication of the date.

Revelation and Reading:

Now, by referring to the markings on the three tabled cards, the performer can immediately identify them—even while blindfolded—via a quick peek. Furthermore, based on themarking of Card 2 (the birth month) and the approximate number derived from the spectator’s counting speed for Card 3 (the birth date), the performer can deduce the zodiac sign.

Note:

During an actual tarot reading, the information revealed should not be overly precise, as this would feel suspiciously contrived. Stating the exact zodiac sign along with an approximate birth date provides a balance of accuracy and believability, enhancing the realism and credibility of the reading.

The spectator holds the deck with the faces toward themselves and pushes forward one card that they feel resonates with their current state (or simply a card they are drawn to). At this moment, the performer can identify the selected card using the long-distance marking system.

Depending on your familiarity with the card faces, you may direct the spectator to focus on a specific element within the card. For example:

With The Magician, you might ask them to think about the color of the Magician’s clothing.
With The Eight of Pentacles, you might ask them to think of the most prominent element—the pentacles themselves.

An advanced approach is to achieve 100% familiarity with all card faces, allowing the performer to use subtle and flexible fishing techniques to confirm the exact element the spectator is thinking of.
